51st Congress and Transportation Exhibit (AQTr) – April 11th to April 13th 2016

The Congress and Transportation Exhibit PROCHAIN ARRÊT! of the AQTr will be held April 11th to April 13th 2016. It is one of the great mobilizing events in the transportation field in Quebec. It stands out among the transportation events with its diversity of conferences, its relevance, its transportation exhibit and the various activities proposed. It is a must for those working in the transportation field. The Director of the Convergence Network is part of the organizing committee and will also present one of the Network projects.

Spatial Accuracy 2016

The Convergence Network invites you to participate in the International Symposium on Spatial Accuracy Assessment in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences, that will be held in Montpellier, from July 5th to July 8th, 2016. Geo-Plus LiDAR event

La compagnie Geo-Plus, membre du Réseau Convergence, vous invite à son colloque de formation sur la technologie LiDAR. Ce colloque aura lieu à Montréal le 10 février prochain, et à Québec, le 17 février. Durant ce colloque, 5 spécialistes du LiDAR et de la gestion des données présenteront leurs recherches. De plus, ce sera l’occasion de découvrir les plus récentes technologies de relevé, ainsi que les plus récents systèmes de visualisation, de structuration et de gestion de données LiDAR. Cette formation est accréditée par l’Ordre des arpenteurs-géomètres du Québec et est admissible à l’Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec. Une collaboration du Réseau Convergence. Mitacs-JSPS Internship (Japan)

Mitacs has partnered with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) to support student mobility between Canadian universities and Japanese universities and research institutes. The Mitacs-JSPS Internship provides opportunities for graduate students in Canada to pursue collaborative research in Japan, allowing them to advance their own research while promoting scientific progress in both Japan and Canada.

• This initiative is directed at all Master and PhD degree students in all fields of the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences.
• Successful applicants will travel to Japan for a period of 10 weeks, from June 14th to August 24th, 2016.
• JSPS will provide round-trip airfare, insurance, a maintenance allowance, and a research support allowance.

Internal due date for applications (for students of Université Laval): January 22nd, 2016 (please note that the application must be signed by the vice-recteur à la recherche et à la création)
Mitacs due date for applications: January 29th, 2016 at 5pm (PST)

Call for Papers CAMUSS 2016

The Convergence Network is organizing CAMUSS 2016 (Second International Symposium on Cellular Automata Modeling for Urban and Spatial Systems), in collaboration with the Center for Research in Geomatics and the Centre for Urban Policy Studies of the Université of Manchester. You are invited to submit a paper to this international event that will be held at the Université Laval, September 21st to 23rd, 2016. Due date for full papers is March 15th, 2016. Due date for extended abstracts is May 23rd, 2016.

A Call for Sponsorship has also been launched for organizations interested in supporting the event and gaining an international visibility.

Congratulations to Daniel Banville, winner of the “My thesis in 360°” contest!

The “My thesis in 360°” contest, held during the GIS Day event at Université Laval, was the occasion, for graduate students, to present, in 3 minutes, their research project. The presentations were clear, concise, and convincing. Meeting with Geovoxel

A meeting with Geovoxel was held during the Fall. Geovoxel is a company founded in 2011 in Brazil by Louis-Martin Losier (who holds a master degree in geomatics sciences from Université Laval). Geovoxel is a company operating in the fields of engineering and systems, with emphasis on geomatics. The mission of the company is to develop solutions for the integration and processing of georeferenced data, aiming to organize the information in a structured, centralized and safe way, utilizing geomatics as the main tool, to the benefits of their clients, their team and the society.

Geovoxel will move its Systems Division to Quebec City in 2016 and is looking for partners. For information, please contact Louis-Martin Losier.

GEOTHINK SUMMER INSTITUTE 2015

The Geothink Summer Institute will focus on providing knowledge and training in theoretical and practical aspects of crowdsourcing. You will be working together with other students from different disciplines to solve a crowdsourcing problem, with expert instruction from a team of leading academics. You will use the knowledge gained at the workshops as well as leverage expertise from individuals in your team to come up with a solution. Expect a strong problem-solving aspect to your experience.

Geothink has a number of research partners in municipal government. This year, we have had the pleasure of working with the City of Ottawa in creating the problem scenario which you will be solving. Your solutions at this workshop will be submitted to representatives from the City of Ottawa.

Only a handful of places are  available to students from undergraduate to graduate level studies.

Students with and without technical backgrounds are welcome.

Dates: 15-17 June
