Positive evaluation of Convergence Network activities by FRQNT

Scientific direction of research fund of Quebec – Nature and Technologies (FRQNT) has evaluated very satisfying the annual report of the Convergence Network for its activities in 2014-2015. Is has assigned it the third payment of its funding for the year 2015-2016. You are invited to follow our forthcoming activities of which development projects with our industrial partners Chaac Technologies, Geo-Plus, Thales Canada and CAE Inc., workshops and thematic conferences on LiDAR, participative mapping, and big data, our partnership with Geomatic Center of Quebec and the webinars we will carry in autumn.

Bring together experts for better innovation in geospatial
Joint Research Unit in Urban Science
Our partner Thales has just finalized the funding of a mixed unit of research (MUR) in urban science involving Laval University, INRS and Quebec City. The official announcement of the development of the MUR took place on May 2015. Many members of the Network are involved namely Mrs. Sylvie Daniel, Mr. Christian Gagné and the director of the Convergence Network Mr. Mir Mostafavi. A funding for the year 2015 will be available through this structure. The network sees beautiful opportunities of forthcoming projects in this context, especially for students’ internships.
 
GIScience 2016 Montreal / September 2016

The Ninth International Conference on Geographic Information Science will be held in Montreal, Canada from September 27 to 30, 2016. Held every two years and alternating between US and Europe, this is the first time that a venue has been selected in Canada. The Convergence Network will be highly implicated in the organisation by three of its members especially Renée Sieber as a general chair. More details are on the GIScience web site.

Launching of a research program oriented in partnership

Sustainable development of mining sector- Social perception component of mining industry and social acceptability of mining projects: This project is offered thanks to a contribution of Energy and Natural Resources ministry (MERN) and Research fund of Quebec – Nature and Technologies (FRQNT).

Call for submission: Three Minute Thesis contest ICIP’15

As part of the student activities, the Technical Program Committee is offering a 3 Minutes Thesis (3MT) contest, where Ph. D. students have three minutes to present a compelling oration on their theses and the significance to an audience specialized in different image processing fields. This unique opportunity aims at developing academic, presentation, and research communication skills and supports the development of research students’ capacity to explain their research in a language appropriate to an educated but non-specialist audience.
